Gmail users will now be able to see why certain emails are marked as spam.
According to The Next Web, all spam emails sent to Gmail addresses will feature a short explanation of why they ended up in the spam folder as of today.
It is hoped that the explanations will provide useful information for Gmail users who might be getting messages wrongly sent into their spam folder.
It is also likely to provide useful insights for professionals within email marketing, who will be looking to ensure that their deliverability rates are as high as possible.
Previously, email marketing experts were only able to predict what features of an email had set off spam filters. Now, many are likely to be keen to test their marketing emails using Gmail in order to learn more about how to improve its deliverability.
Writing for The Official Gmail Blog, Google software engineer Ela Czajka explained why the company were keen to implement this new feature.
She said: “While we think you should never have to look in your spam folder, we know some of you may want to know why the messages there were marked as spam.
“We hope that this is not only interesting, but also helps you learn about scams and other harmful messages that Gmail filters out. Whether you prefer to leave your spam folder untouched or do some educational digging, the information will be there for you.”
