Take a break from your Christmas shopping and catch up with what’s been happening in the digital world this week!

10 Years of YouTube

Sit back, review 2015 and celebrate YouTube’s 10th anniversary in just 6 minutes and 39 seconds! Created by more than 150 YouTube editors, the “YouTube Rewind 2015” video is compiled using clips based on the amount of hours watched, number of comments, likes and shares. Grab a cuppa and settle back to enjoy the weird and wonderful world of Youtube and all the information and entertainment it has provided us with this year.

Two-tap response emails

Google can now scan your emails for you and tell you which need a response and which don’t. Magic! Google Smart Reply allows users to reply to emails using just two taps – one to open, one to select and send a response. Suitable only for emails requiring short responses, Smart Reply could save businesses an enormous amount of time and money by streamlining users inboxes.

2015’s App of the year!

Apple editors have named their app of the year, with the 2015 accolade going to Persicope, a live-streaming video app. Periscope holds promise for businesses and brands, who are testing the water with webinars, live user support, product features, insider views and more. Having already taken the social media world by storm, we’re expecting big things from live video streaming in the coming year.

The slow demise of the keyword

Google’s RankBrain was released earlier this year to cries of “the machines are taking over!” No longer can marketers get their content to the top of the Google Search rankings just through integrating keywords and key phrases into their blogs and product pages. RankBrain now seeks to take into consideration the context of searches when calculating rank. Thankfully, clickz.com have recently produced a handy guide on what we marketers need to know about RankBrain.

Email Marketing Stats from 2015

72.6% of statistics are made up on the spot, but you’ll be pleased to know that these email marketing statistics from our friends at Litmus aren’t! Their top 10 marketing stats of 2015 have revealed some interesting (and disturbing) results. Find out how many customers tactically abandon their shopping cart to try and wangle free shipping, what the biggest marketing channel was on Black Friday 2015, and where users have been checking their email (Bet you never wanted to know that 42% do so in the bathroom- yuck!).

So that’s it for now, please join us next time for another round-up of digital developments. See you next week!
