Tablet owners spend more online, Adobe reveals

Those shopping online using a tablet device tend to spend more on their purchases, according to data published by Adobe.

Adobe revealed the findings in its latest Digital Marketing Insights report; stating that those using a table to shop spend, on average, 54 per cent more than their desktop or laptop-using counterparts.

The firm implied that this could be attributed to the increased wealth of tablet users, who may have more disposable income to play with.

This may well encourage online marketers to up their game when it comes to ensuring their efforts display correctly on a tablet; be it an email marketing message or social media campaign. If they properly optimise their content for said devices, they could well capitalise on their owners' increased spend.

A spokesperson for Adobe, Brad Rencher, gave his thoughts on the results. Cited by Myhermes1.co.uk, he said: "Adobe has long championed the need for retailers to optimise their sites for mobile visitors and the results of this study indicate that tablet devices have become an critical [sic] sales channel."

His comments tie in well with Adobe's results, which also found that those who own a tablet are almost three times as likely to make a purchase than those using a smartphone. As such, retailers and marketers should ensure they aren't "under-serving a highly-profitable, fast-growing customer segment," Rencher concluded on Zdnet.com.
