Experts reveal how to stay innovative within digital marketing
Deborah Bates
31 Jan 2012There are many ways in which to keep digital marketing fresh, according to several industry experts - who cited taking regular breaks as a key factor.
Speaking to Mashable.com's business editor, Todd Wasserman, the collection of experts also urged marketers to ensure they are regularly exposed to new environments.
In fact Teresa Amabile, a Harvard Business School professor, was a particular advocate of this technique; explaining he benefits of integrating with other cultures - or people, to be precise.
"The more random the person, the better, because it will force you out of whatever mindset you're in," Amabile said. She wasn't alone in her thinking, as creative technology specialist Scott Prindle said "mixing and matching" can prompt many a creative idea.
However there were several other methods put forward too, potentially encouraging any content, social media or email marketing specialists to take note.
For example, Michael Leobowitz, a digital advertising CEO, explained that stepping back from the project in hand can be crucial. Doing anything else that stimulates the brain - be it it taking a walk or visiting a museum - gives it the space it needs to allow creative ideas to flow. What's more, neurosurgery expert Rex Jung said that the frontal lobes need to go "offline" for a while in order to refresh, which means no looking at the computer - or even the smartphone - for a while.
Other ideas suggested in the article - which was also cited by Socialmedianewsalerts.blogspot.com - included actively avoiding group brainstorming sessions, think about the simplest way possible to tackle a marketing exercise and not being afraid to garner inspiration from an "old favourite".
