A number of industry experts have warned of the dangers of inactive email marketing subscribers.

Crystal Gouldey, who is an experienced education marketing associate and frequent digital marketing blogger, has claimed that having a huge email list is not always a good thing.

In an article for business2community.com, she explained how too many inactive subscribers could result in more of a firm's marketing emails being sent to junk mail folders.

"ISPs are looking at engagement more and more when they decide to deliver an email to the inbox or not. This means if your list of addresses that aren't responding, you can see lower deliverabilty," she said.

Georgia Christian, who is the editor of an online marketing service, has urged email marketing professionals to remove these inactive subscribers from their email marketing lists.

In an article for memeburn.com, she explained that companies that did so would not only save money but also find it easier to send relevant content.

She said: "It's difficult to let go of a subscriber and their valuable details when they start ignoring your email campaigns. Sadly, this will be the email that will get them interested again, I hear you ask yourself. Sadly, this is rarely the case."
