5 Email marketing strategies that were right there under your nose

Improve your email marketing today, by implementing one of these strategies.

1. You Know You Want It

During the average online shop, I'm constantly taking stuff out of my basket, then putting it in again, only to finally decide at the checkout page that I can only really afford the plasma screen and the lazy boy arm chair, the touch screen coffee table will have to wait. But I still want it, so why not send your customer an email about the product they DIDN'T buy? Maybe send out your monthly email containing the 'abandoned' products.

2. Thank You!

If you’re using email marketing software such as PureResponse, you should be able to see exactly who sent your email on to a friend, and you can then easily create a list of these people - why not thank them? A simple thank you email containing a discount to show your gratitude can go a long way towards a) encouraging them to do the same again, and b) getting them back in the shopping mood.

3. Don't leave me this way...

So you've noticed that 60% of people who buy the track suit will buy a pair of trainers, so it makes sense that they should receive an offer on the trainers. A great way to do this without bombarding customers with emails is to include these cross-selling offers in your order confirmation email

4. Hey Big Spender!

In some instances, a small percentage of customers are responsible for a large percentage of your profit margin. Identify these groups and send each highly profitable customer segment targeted emails. If ten percent of customers are responsible for fifty percent of sales, it makes sense to treat them differently. Properly segmenting your customers and sending them customised emails will increase sales and continue to encourage loyalty.

5. Should I stay or should I go.... or maybe just take a rain check.

Don't put your customers in a position where they have to choose between receiving emails at normal frequency or opting-out completely. Give them the option of receiving emails less often, or even better, choosing exactly what they do want to receive - "opting down." This is important because once customers optout, it's no easy feat to lure them back. Giving recipients the choice will help to retain loyal customers.
