It’s that time of the week again, time for the digital round up! Let’s see what’s been happening in the digital world lately.


This week has seen the launch of the Objective Revision Evaluation Service from Wikipedia. This release ties into our recent discussions about Artificial Intelligence, as this new software has been trained by Wiki-editors to recognise a low-quality edit on an article based on the language and context of the change. We can only imagine the amount of time this is saving editors, and will lend further credibility to articles found on Wikipedia by filtering out potentially damaging edits.

Take it from the White House

Over here in the UK, the USA’s Presidential campaigns often pass us by aside from a cursory news feature or two. We’re bringing it to your attention because Clickz have produced a brilliant breakdown of how the Presidential candidates are utilising different strategies on Twitter to foster engagement and win votes. I think everyone can definitely take a leaf or two out of their books when seeking to spice up Twitter campaigns in the New Year!

Blocking the ad-blockers

Do you get irritated with constant pop-ups and adverts springing up unwanted on your screen? You might be interested in this news. There is new technology in use which allows publishers to push ads on readers, including those who have an ad-blocker installed. Good news for publishers, but bad news for users who may find their ad-blocker software obsolete.

“A big win for the marketing profession”

It’s not often that “regulation” and “win” are seen in the same sentence, but the imminent completion of the EU Council’s Data Protection Regulation may give the marketing community more room for manoeuvre when it comes to consent. Keep a lookout for the release of the Regulation in the next few weeks, but in the meantime find out more from the Direct Marketing Association.

A Festive fairy light fluster

We bet you’d never have thought those lovely twinkly fairy lights on your Christmas tree could be wreaking havoc with your broadband speed! Ofcom has released an app that will allow you to check how your wifi is performing in your home, tying in the release with some new statistics from their 2015 Connected Nations report. If your broadband is somewhat sluggish, it could be worth downloading the app and testing your wifi speed yourself!
